Core Fitness. . . in Federal Way, WA

Posted by federal way undressed No Comments »

Are you searching for a Pilates Studio?  Well, this one is off of Pacific Highway and 312th.  Core fitness is more than just ripped abs.  It is working on all of your abdominal muscles, especially the ones underneath that “surfacey” top ripped part.  We under estimate how much it takes to stablize our bodies in an unstable environment.  The stronger our core the stronger our back and the better our balance and this is one of the big keys when trying to prevent injuries; even like falling down the stairs.   Also, Pilates, is more than just ab work.  It is a whole fitness regimine which produces a strong core structure.

A Small Plug for Lady of America Fitness Center

Posted by federal way undressed No Comments »

I have to mention this little fitness center.  It is by the Metropolitan Market where 312th and Dash Point intersect.  This workout place isn’t that close to me but I like checking out gymns and such.  So, I bounced in one day when I was through visiting “another” store.  Yes, it is for women only and that is part of the appeal.  But I must say everyone was very friendly and the manager was personable, very gracious and nice.  She made it all sound fun.  Oh, plus, they have an infrared sauna.  That is what initially caught my attention.  So, ladies if you live close to this neck of the woods check them out.  They give out free passes.

Where do you work out in Federal Way?

You have Bally’s up across from the The Commons Mall up 20th to S. 316th Pl.

Then there is 24 Hour Fitness up by where the old Target and Toys R Us use to be off of 314th .  It is situated among a little strip mall that also has Gene Juarez, Sally’s Beauty Supplies, Tuesday Morning and a few others.

And probably the most popular right now is the new LA Fitness.  And it is quite spectacular with its lap pool, cycling rooms, basketball courts, weights and many classes.  And don’t forget the Federal Way Community Center that is new itself.  It even has a climbing wall.

My favorite place though, I guess because it is close to me, is North Hill Fitness.  Yes, North Hill Fitness is not technically Federal Way.  It is in Milton.  Milton is a small little town bordering Federal Way.  But it is just so close to me.  I live in the Hill Creek Development that is in South Federal Way, right along the Pierce County/King County Border line.  So I live in Federal Way, have a Milton phone number and my kids go to school in the Fife School District.  I love the location because it puts me close the Enchanted Village/Wild Waves Park (Six Flags), Crossings Shopping Center and the Commons Mall and I get to feel a little bit country by being close to Milton, Fife, Edgewood and Puyallup.

The North Hill Fitness center is simple.  Just the way I like things.  It doesn’t have showers but I am only 2 minutes from my own shower when I am done.  And it has all the equipment I need for cardio and weight training.  At least for now.  Plus, it allows me to afford my teenage children to have memberships too.

Don’t under-estimate some of these little guys.

Women’s Triathlon in Federal Way

Posted by Debbie Leavitt 2 Comments »

Federal Way is the third stop in a series of 4 cities sponsoring a one of a kind, women only triathlon.  Subura is the title sponsor and the event takes place on Sunday, September 9, 2007 at Steel Lake Park.  More than just a race, each Series event provides a supportive environment for women of all ages and athletic abilities coupled with a weekend of fun.  The Series also supports the important work of the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.  More information.

Last year I did my first triathlon sponsored by my church and it was the day before this one in Federal Way.  A friend of mine from work took part in this Federal Way event and really enjoyed it.  It was her first time also.  We both were a little scared because we felt like such rookies.   But what is so nice is that it is true. . . all ages and capabilities are represented so you really end up racing against yourself.  For me and for Andrea, we just wanted to FINISH.  And that felt really good.  So, for any of you women who want to challenge yourself plus feel supported in trying something new this may be the perfect event.  And for you who may be more qualified they do have 2 levels.  The Sprint Competition (.75k Swim - 20k Bike - 6.6k Run) and the SuperSprint Competition (.375k Swim - 13k Bike - 3.4k Run).  Being the novice that I still am I at first thought the SuperSprint would be the longer one.  And for those of you trying to figure out the “k” .75k is .46 miles, 375 meters is .23 miles for the swim; 20k is about 12 miles and 13k is 8 miles for the bike; 6.5k is 4 miles and 3.4k is 2.1 miles.

Try it, you may find new motivation for your workouts.  And the victory can be “just to finish”.
